My Biography

Jason Hall BSc(Hons) AGAvA

I was born in Sheffield, England, but was brought up in the New Forest and have lived for extended periods in both Iran and Hong Kong. From a very early age I always had a pencil in my hand and displayed a talent for both drawing and painting. My first published works were a series of cartoons depicting life in Hong Kong which were published in 1984 in the Hong Kong Tatler magazine. Some of these cartoons can be seen in the Hong Kong cartoon gallery. My aviation cartoons have also featured in several books over the years.

I have also been fortunate enough to have travelled widely, visiting countries such as India, Malawi, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the USA, Zambia and many European countries. This experience of travel has fostered in me a love of discovering new places and experiencing new cultures. Travel has also provided me with a hugely diverse classroom in which I have honed my skills of observation, a key asset for any artist, whilst simultaneously providing endless inspiration for my art.

Art is a passion I have indulged in all my life, and for me, a perfect way to relax. I love to draw and paint all manner of subjects from pet portraits and landscapes to aviation and wildlife. My interests range far and wide and this allows me to dive into many subjects and genres. As a result I have developed the ability to work in broad range of media including pencils, pens, pastels, charcoal, acrylic and oil paints. Over the past fifteen years I have regularly exhibited in the Mall galleries in London where I have sold many paintings and cartoons.

Being self-taught has not always been easy, I have had to work out for myself how to put down on paper or canvas the images in my mind. This has, at times, been quite a lonely road, but for me one that has been filled with achievement. It has allowed me to develop my own style unconstrained by a more formal education in art. It also means that I have developed the ability to adjust my style seamlessly to fit with the subject and requirements of my customers.

From a professional perspective I am an associate member of the Guild of Aviation Artists, where I have exhibited at their annual exhibition for many years, a member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society and a member of the Society of All Artists (SAA).
